How to Make Your Business Brochures Stand Out

Business Brochures

Even in today’s online world, printed marketing material such as business brochures are still highly effective as relevant as ever. Think about it: if you meet someone at a networking event and exchange your website address, what are the chances of them going home and looking you up? Give them a brochure that showcases your products and services, and the chances of them taking it home and reading it in their own time are far higher. You can even go one step further and use these tips to make your business brochures stand out from the crowd.

Understand the Reader

You should always write your brochure from the reader’s point of view, and speak in a way they can understand by avoiding technical jargon. If you receive a plethora of questions from customers about your products and business, try to answer as many of these as possible in the text, so all that is left for the person to do is buy from you.

Motivate the Reader to Look Inside

The make or break factor of your brochure is the front cover. Get it wrong and the reader is unlikely to look inside, resulting in a lost sale. Imagery is important on the front cover and you should ensure the pictures are clear, sharp and high quality, enticing the reader to keep reading. Dangling the carrot with a tell them there’s something inside the handout just for them e.g. a special discount or free report will help ensure they to open it and look inside.

Promote the Benefits of Your Product

You’ve worked hard to get the reader’s attention, now it’s important that you keep it! Nobody really cares about the features of a product, they care about its benefits and what they’ll get out of it. The skill here lies in the wording you use – explain the features of the product, then continue by saying “which means that…” For example, “Our cars use the latest technology, which means they are more efficient than ever and save you hundreds in running costs each year.”

Think Outside the Box

Who says that a flyer has to conform to standard sizes? A little imagination can go a long way in making your business brochures stand out and the amount of attention they receive. Designing your brochure in a different shape, colour or style than normal is sure to make them stand out and entice people to pick it up for a read, so get those creative juices flowing!

Add Atmosphere and Context

Using colourful words to describe your product and add some atmosphere will work wonders for sales. People are emotional creatures, and you need to appeal to this side of human nature to persuade them to buy from you. Instead of talking about how a stove works, tell your reader about being wrapped up beside their warm stove while the winter winds howl outside.

Use a Call to Action

At the end of your brochure, you need to include a request for action by including a telephone number, email address or business location. Making it clear to the reader the next step they need to take is far more likely to get them to buy than if they are left wondering how to get in touch with you. Remember, the end goal is to sell, and you should do everything in your power to make that happen.
